On the grid, Off the grid.

On the grid, Off the grid.

Drawing Rooms.

Jersey City, NJ.

Curated by Anne Trauben.

02/05/2026 - 03/01/26.

The grid has been used throughout art history as a tool for creating accurate and proportional drawings. Artists to this day have continued using the grid as an important element to create balance and symmetry, as well as imbalance and asymmetry, in their work. The concept of being On or Off the Grid may also relate to our current society which relies on our interconnected and ever-widening systems of communication. Works for this show may engage a literal system of the grid or a distortion or deconstruction of the grid, and may also make reference to the cyber-connected universe we live in or to a departure from it.

“I came in from the wilderness, a creature void of form.”
– Bob Dylan

Drawing Rooms exhibit, "formless", features works that project a sense of poetic lightness, fragility, and etherealness in weight, volume, color, or mass, or that may be atmospheric and seem to defy gravity. Some of the works may evoke within the viewer a meditative sense of calm, in others, a sense of mystery, including works that are abstract, objective, nonobjective, narrative, or imbued with formal qualities of line and shape.

In
keeping with our love of music, this show is dedicated to Bob Dylan, whose music, known for its poetic blend of folk and rock and socially conscious lyrics, evolved from acoustic ballads to electric anthems, and his style morphed, pushed boundaries, and set trends that influenced generations of musicians with his unique voice and literary approach to popular music. Dylan’s song, Shelter From the Storm, relates to our Formless theme, and we especially like it.

Drawing Tube is an international platform for alternative research and practice of drawing. It explores multiple aspects of drawing-making, from experimental, contemporary drawing practices to the exploration of anthropological aspects of line creation.

Antennae is inspired by the artist Morgan O'Hara's LIVE TRANSMISSIONS. The artist describes her drawing as being, "like seismographs." In this sense, drawing becomes a means to receive perceive and translate the ever-changing reality around them.

Antennae will feature artists' work on the Drawing Tube website, instagram, and a future book publication.
